Whilst many people head to Swiss resorts around Geneva, Austrian Innsbruck also has many incoming direct flights from the UK, Ireland, Scandinavia, Benelux and other European countries

Kühtai

The highest positioned village in Austria and just 40min drive from Innsbruck, Kühtai is an obvious choice with a guarantee of fresh snow and real high-altitude terrains. Winter season is long here, starting at the end of November and lasting till the first weeks of May. Boasting nearly 50km of pistes, Kühtai is a great medium-sized resort with a good mix of piste difficulty for all levels and some untouched deep snow off-piste terrains for the more adventurous. There is a nice snowpark, "built by snowboard geeks for snowboard freaks" with boxers, kickers, pipes and countless other attractions. Away from the slopes, there is a a sled run and snow shoe trails through some wonderful winter scenery. Snow sculpting and igloo workshops are just some of the events on the year-round agenda. Most hotels are ski-in ski-out so no time is wasted commuting and energy waste on carrying skis - your winter fun starts on the doorstep. Families with children will surely appreciate this quick access and kids will be spoilt for choice with a range of beginners' terrains, magic carpet and other entertainment. Situated at an elevation of 2,020m above sea level, Kühtai is the best choice for fans of high-altitude skiing.

Seefeld in Tirol

Niederau

Niederau, about an hour drive from Innsbruck, makes part of the Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau ski area with 109 kilometres of perfectly groomed pistes and 45 lifts. It is a varied area with idyllic church villages such as Niederau, Oberau or Thierbach and untouched nature. The winter sports area is situated between 830 and 2,025m above sea level with a good choice of covered forest slopes and open and wide high-altitude terrains. The ski area extends over two valleys providing a good variety and constantly changing panoramas. Aside from skiing, there is a lot more to try out from thrilling toboggan runs to piste-basher co-pilot experiences. The mountains are scattered with ski huts and cozy restaurants for the perfect winter atmosphere and après-ski fun.  There is a god variety of hotels and accommodation for every budget making this a safe bet for families, couples and larger groups alike.
